Jump into another culture when you
are home hosted by another member. This is the chance you have,
to experience the food, the routines, the family life as you become part
of another family for up to three days.
To
fully enjoy the experience you must be willing to "go with the flow" of
the family. Our own two home hosting experiences in France, led to an expedition
to the local outdoor market to buy the food, a day as guest English
teachers in a French Junior High School, and a stunning feast as we were
invited to stay for dinner, and Mike had the chance to practice his French.
Your
experience will be different, unique to you and your hosts, and we
hope it will be the highlight of your next holiday, as it was ours. The
member host is only obliged to give you a clean bed, and a breakfast.
As a guest you are obliged to fit in with their culture and routines, and
be as unobtrusive as is required to be the perfect guest in a family home.
They are not tour guides, chauffeurs, or hoteliers, so do not expect
them to be. However, a friendship often forms and you may be as fortunate
as we were , to experience the lives of our hosts as they went about their
daily routines. Many hosts are so passionate about the area in which
they live, they can give you the perfect itinerary to see all the
local activities and attractions.
To be a host, you only need to assess the beds you have available
if a member wishes to stay with you, and add this on your subscription
form. You need to provide a breakfast and that is all. Breakfast can be
cereal and toast and a drink, or you can be more elaborate if you
wish.
If you work during the day while they are staying, your guests
leave your home when you do, and arrive back after you have returned
home. They will be happy exploring your area and they are obliged
to provide their own lunch, and dinner unless you choose to invite them
to share a meal. We have hosted many, many teachers and one of the
joys of opening our home is the wonderful insight our visitors give
us into their worlds back home. In return, they enjoy our unique New
Zealand and cultural differences.

Home hosting and hospitality ~ the facts.
This is your
invitation to be fully immersed in another culture! The food, the language,
and best of all...the people!
Members invite you
and your family to be part of their family and their world for 2-3 days.
Members are asked to not stay longer than 3 days as it has been shown that
this is the maximum time a visitor should stay in a home without causing
disruption, intended or otherwise.
Members are able to access the full listings of home hosting members
with descriptions of their area and their homes, an insight into their
interests and activities, public transport available, and
email addresses to request a home stay directly. There is no charge for
the accommodation or breakfast.
If you have
any special needs please state these when you make your request to
stay, so a family can make arrangements for you, or to let you know that
these needs can not be met. This may include inability to climb staircases
up to bedrooms, allergies to cats, non smoking environment etc.
